Barcook Bakery ~ Friggin’ Delicious Raisin Cream Cheese Buns!

Thank God I finally laid my hands on these babies! And so I read about its virtues, I heard them rave about its scrumptiousness, but I wouldn’t believe how good it really is till I sunk my teeth into one of these raisin cream cheese buns ($1.30)!

raisin cream cheese bun innards... oh so dee..licious!

OMGawd! The bun really really is so so delicious! One bite into it, it’d already usurp the glory of MaMa Bakery’s No.1 raisin cheese bun. I don’t know how this sponge-dough method works, but the bread is really pillowy soft and chewy in a very toothsome way. As you chomp into it, fragrant cream cheese oozes out. The innards’ a little sweetish, not cheesy-saltish... hmm.... its milk-like quality is somewhat like the milk cream in Provence’s milk pan and the raisins are big, plump and very juicy.

Ohmygawd the bun is really so yummy! I bought 1 for lunch today, 1 for tea and 1 for breakfast the next day. I ate 1 for lunch, tea for lunch and breakfast never made it home. It was THAT GOOD. Trust me when I say this. I’m a bread lover & I’ve eaten breads from all over the island, but I haven’t the life of me eaten such a luscious bun before. It’s the dough, peeps... it’s awesome.

I love the fragrant cream cheese!

The buns from Barcook Bakery are really popular with those in the know and office ladies especially. I’ve been here many times before but the shelves are always empty, either that or the buns are already reserved. I’m so happy I finally got to eat them today. I’m returning for more. A lot more. The raisin cream cheese is their best seller, but I spied a Mexi Cheese bun ($1.30) which seems to be another hot item too. Yet I’d be hard-pressed not to get a dozen of these babies the next time.

Tomorrow? Heh.

For good buns, I will. :)

Damn. Why are I telling you this... now there’ll be more people vying for my coveted buns...

rata: I hope you do soon too. But I don't think the buns can ever make it home... they are really too good to resist eating. :)

Wow, that seems to be a nice treat for all times. I recall I used to go Chinatown for freshly baked buns...

Talking about milk bread from provence, there is this subtle sourishness which I am not sure where it comes from but I didn't fancy it that much. Somehow or rather, milk + sour = hmm...

Their raisin buns are one of the better buns. Do try their multigrain loaf. The bread is very soft and has lotsa ingredients. Gd to eat plain or in a sandwich. Mmmm...

noodlegirl: Wow you were from Singapore?

fen: Hmm... maybe you kept it overnight? My milk pans always taste fine to me. In fact it's most delicious if you can eat it just warm from the oven. The milk pan, together with the blueberry cheese pan, are the only buns I eat from Provence.

ah teo: Yipes. You knew about this place too? Shh... don't tell others. :)

Ok lah, I'm a convert after reading this. But I don't go to Upper Cross Street often leh :(

Keevy: I've only tried the raisin cream cheese but it certainly is so much better than MaMa's & Provence's similar offerings. You should try it if you're in the area... if you can catch the buns. :)

diva: For the love of breads, go! You will love it lots, healthy and delicious, G will love it too. Hmm... I think you should venture out of your comfort Dempsey & Bukit Timah zones for food lol.

Was amazed how fragrant and soft these buns can be. So soft till they were already flattened so I can't take photos of them...

The queue wasn't as bad as I expected it to be... They have quite a lot of buns to handle the crowd...

However, I would prefer to have more bread than cream cheese filling... so in a way, it is better received by Yuan's mum and my mum...

Nevertheless, finally found something that pleases Yuan's mum's taste buds... Thank you for sharing...

I've been workin at Barcook Bakery for quite some time now. Yes the queue is mad,but please be prepared to spend ard 15min~1 hour waiting for your buns. Some buns are only available at certain timing,so different buns would be out at different time of the day. We currently have a new outlet at 'The Central' at qlark quey now,its by the ERP sign by the singapore river, you guys should check it out =P Althou the new outlet was opened on friday,we are beginning to attract queues of office workers,so please be patient. We Have tons of new buns here, but both of our outlets have different specialties, althou we wont miss out on the rasin cream buns and german museli!

if i were to keep the raisin cream overnight, do i have to keep in the fridge?

wenxin: I suppose if you're intending to consume it the next day, it wouldn't be necessary to keep it in the fridge. Try warming it up in the microwave, it's nicer.

Provence, Cedele, Arinco King and Barcook. Ok..i'm so getting fat...

I hv eaten bread all over Pg and KL! (i;m frm Pg) and if u come KL i hope to take u ard ;)
BUT looks like Sg beat us flat when it comes to the quality and taste. Even frm pics I could tell its many notches above KL's offerings..
